EXPORT privilege

Hi all,

is it possible to obtain the EXPORT privilege on HCP Hana? We have filed a ticket and now SAP needs our data in the catalog format. None of our DB users has the EXPORT system privilege and we are not able to grant it to any user. The data is well over 10G, so selecting it from a remote client is not a very good option, moreover the format may not be exactly the same as when exporting it.

Hi Micha,

from your description I think that this privilege would not solve your problem, since you still would not get file system access on OS level for the HANA system.

You wrote that you already have opened a ticket. I think the best course of action would be to put it on the BC-NEO-PERS component. I'm sure the HCP Persistence Service support will be able to help you.

Best regards,

Hi Oliver,

I see, I would not have expected that Hana cannot write to its file system. I'm puzzled by your suggestion, though. What is the BC-NEO-PERS component and what is the HCP Persistence Service support? I've filed the ticket some time ago and although I've written a couple of times that I have no EXPORT permission, they still want me to export the data and send it to them. Puzzled by that, too.

Hi Micha,

HANA itself can write to the file system, my statement was more about how you would get to the data written there after it is exported, since the file system cannot be accessed by yourself. So if the data needs to be transported to some other instance, just doing the export in the file system would not be enough. But since I don't know the exact scenario, that was only a guess.

I assume that the ticket you are referring to was opened via the SAP Support Portal. There are different hierarchies for the respective support components, with HAN-* for HANA platform (the software itself) related issues and BC-NEO-* for the SAP HANA Cloud Platform.

If you opened the ticket on the HAN-* hierarchy, then it is processed by the HANA support and development organization, and sometimes the colleagues there assume that you are using an on-premise HANA system, where you would have full access to everything.

However, the HCP systems are run in a protected network, and the systems can only be directly managed by the HCP support, not by the HANA support team. So in order to access anything exported to the file system, the ticket would need to be handled by the HCP support team, and BC-NEO-PERS is the support component of the HCP Persistence Service which is responsible for managing the database systems in HCP.

So if the HANA support requests this from you, please change the support component of your ticket to BC-NEO-PERS and make sure to supply the information laid out in the Get Support section of the HCP documentation, so that the HCP support can identify your system without having to ask back.

I hope this clears up any confusion.

Best regards

Oliver

I see, thanks a lot for the clarification. Our ticket is with BC-NEO. I've naively assumed that if I export the data to the HCP Hana file system, the SAP support will be able to grab it. Otherwise I'd have to shuffle those 10G+ here and back, this somehow would not look like the 21st century to me 😞 But since I cannot export to the server, I'll probably have to do just that.

Cheers,

As a matter of fact, I've tried the client export and got the message:

column store error: table export failed: Too big for client export. Please use server-local export. A file exceeds maximum size for remote export (2048MB).

So back to square one. I'll try to write it to the ticket...
