Error While Changing Price Indicator From 'S' to 'V'..!!

Hello Experts

I am facing problem while changing price indicator of material from 's' to 'v' with valuation category 'X- Automatic batch' but the system doesn't allow me to do this change.

I have already met all the prerequisites like Stock = 0, All open documents closed.

I am getting error 'Batches already exist' ,i have set the deletion flag for batches but this doesn't solve the problem.

I know i have option to  do batch archiving, Is this the only approach or there is some any other solution ? If i do batch archiving can we restore the deleted batches ?

Please help as i have to do this activity for around 1500 materials ...!!

Regards,

Amit Sharma

Hi,

Please check the note: 155874 - Change valuation category in material master which explains the system design.

Hello

I have gone through under solution as well mentioned in the note and if you have read properly i have mentioned in my post as well about batch archiving.

I know we can do archiving but my concern is if i do archiving ,can we restore the deleted batches? if Yes, then how to restore the archived data later?

If i restore the archived data will it may lead to any inconsistency ??

Archiving is a must, and restoring an archived batch must not happen as this would make the archiving irrelevant  and cause the inconsistencies that should be prevented with the guidance given in the note.

From my point of view is archiving a process (starts usually with a project, is done by a dedicated team and executed in a designed sequence on planned dates over the year) and not meant to fix single mistakes.

Thanx a lot for your reply and clarification about archiving..!!

I have to implement Batch costing for a material type and in that material type i have around 1500 materials for which i need to change the price indicator and maintain valuation category.

As my client is from paint industry they don't want that the old batches should be deleted from the system. Is there any other approach we can look for ??

Please help how we can proceed further..!!

Do you have any challenges in creating a new Material code?

In that case I would try to get in contact with SAP's SLO team to find out the possible options

Your requirement cannot be achieved in hours, such transition needs a project which will probably take weeks or months.  And if you follow the archiving approach then you need new batches and the old batches are kept in the archive only.

If you want keep the situation as is and only change the price indicator then you need to help from SAP SLO, they create programs to do such changes consistent at database level. They have the experience and can consult if this requirement is possible at all and what has to be considered.

Hello Amit,

                 Have you tried below actions?

SAP has a Tcode : MM74 to archive & delete batches.

Here select the Maintain Variant> Create your variant-> Select the material, plant & restrict to required batches.

Next maintain start date, etc & run this program.

You will get the necessary further messages from the system.

Please ensure you have authorisation to do this. Else it will not work.
