Is an APO Optimizer server needed when only running SNP & PPDS heuristics?

Dear members

if the scope of APO functionality in an implementation is restricted to:

- SNP Heuristics,

- Deployment Heuristics,

- TLB, PPDS heuristics,

is it really required to install an optimizer server? Could it result in cost savings if we exclude optimizer server from the hardware / software purchase at the time of brand new implementation?

Hi Sangeeth

Ideally you don´t require Optimizer server if you are not using but not sure if you can separate it and save in terms of cost.

If you need answers, categorical or otherwise, hire a consulting company. 

I can categorically say that you will not need a separate optimizer server if your intention is to only run heuristics.

Cost savings are not my field of expertise, and I decline to offer any opinions in this area.

Hi Sangeeth

There are always 2 types of costs comes with any system landscape.

1. licence cost and I think here you are require to see your contract with SAP or negotiate to see how you can save the money.

2. Maintenance cost , surely as you don´t require additional server you can save some money here.
