Excel Dataprovider in Webi - how to change source path?

Former Member

Hi Experts!

Can you advise how to change the source path of an excel data provider? We currently have the excel file sitting in a folder in Bi Launchpad, and from there we created a webi report with it. BUT we then changed the name of the folder, and now we find the excel data provider doesn't work because the source path hasn't changed to include the new folder name - it's still looking for the old one! I see you can set the source path when you create an excel data provider, but I can't see how to change it now.

Thanks,

Andrew

Hello Andrew,

Go to Query panel of your report and just click on the highlighted button of attached screen shot to navigate through the new path.

Hi Niraj! This is very helpful. But when I do as you say I see there is no button like this. All the other fields are there. When I drag the slider to the right to show what is at the end of the Source Path field, the field just expands, showing no button. Don't know if this is a Java issue or a Rights issue. I'm logged in as admin. And we're using 4.1 SP4 patch 12. Thanks

Just making sure you are going the same navigation like below:

  1. Go to Web Intelligence Rich client
  2. Go to Data Access -> Data provider -> Edit
  3. Open the "Query Panel", and in the "Query Properties" tab, use the Source Path menu to select a different source file.

Can you give us a screenshot of what you see?

Hello! This is what I see. When I expand the left pane to see the button at the end of "Source Path", the field just keeps expanding as well - no button. Thanks

Could you please try that with Rich Client?

The Edit Settings has no button either - just displays the source path field, which is uneditable.

Thanks

We don't give our users access to Rich Client so it would be best to find the solution for Webi.

Thanks

Would you try creating a sample report on top of the same excel sheet and see if the new report allows you change the source or not?

Also have a look at this blog

Hi - I created the sample report and the button is still unavailable.

I also checked the blog but it doesn't really cover that issue.

Anything else you can recommend?

Just to confirm, you are logged in as Administrator user, Correct?

Secondly, can you check the folder and application access with the below right:

CMC-> Access Level -> Included Rights -> Application -> Web Intelligence -> Desktop Interface - enable local data providers

Hi, yes, I'm logging in as admin, but issue affects all users.

Checked all relevant access levels and they do have that right GRANTED.

It's a tough one! Anything else I should check?

Right click on the excel file->Organise->replace excel->choose the file and try in BI Lanuch Pad.

Hello Andrew,

Could you please check it from Rich Client in an offline mode so that you have no connection to server. This will confirm that if this is a product bug or access issue.

I have tested from  BI LanuchPad you need to follow replace excel file path only..

Right click on the excel file->Organise->replace excel->choose the file and try in BI Lanuch Pad.
