Dear experts,
When trying to delete inquiry items which have subsequent document in t-code VA12, we encounter system block " item cannot be deleted because of subsequent document". User said they used to be able to delete items which also have subsequent documents before and why now they are not able to. Could you share your ideas?
It was never allowed in standard SAP to delete the preceding documents/items if a subsequent document exists. We don't use inquiries so can't confirm 100%, but I seriously doubt it'd work any differently for any sales document.
You might have had a modification that broke the standard behavior. This would be rather reckless and could cause the whole bunch of problems. Or there could've been a bug in SAP that was patched. But neither scenario is very likely so I'd suspect the users are mistaken. We get these alarms after every upgrade that something stopped working, but then we go into an old copy and confirm it worked the same way before. Not unusual.
In any case, even if it ever worked that way in your system it was not standard, so you won't find any information on this on SCN.

Hello Christina,
Is that a SAP Standard program that is allowing item deletion even if there is subsequent document created? I doubt.
Most probably it would be a Z-program and you will have to check with your development team on what changes were recently done to the program that deactivated the Custom functionality.
Thanks,

hello christina weng,
if there was any subsequent documents linked with inquiry you cannot delete the inquiry items first you have to cancel all subsequent documents which was linked to your inquiry document until system is not able to allow you to delete that once will cancel all subsequent documents then system is able to allow you to delete that.
regards,
rayudu
