Converting Write Optimized DSO to Standard DSO in BW on HANA

Hi,

We are migrating objects from a Regional BW system (7.3 on DB2) to a Global BW system (7.4 on HANA). After migrating the DSO's to the Global system, the request is to convert all the write optimized DSO's to standard DSO's.

Please suggest if there will be notable benefits (in terms of performance)/disadvantages or risks in converting write optimized to standard DSO's in BW on HANA.

Thanks,

Pradheepa B

When you say Standard DSO..you mean Adv DSO. Better to use below marked template when creating ADSO.

WDSO(OLD) -> transformation 1-to-1 mapping -> ADSO

Then load data via DTP ( request by request )

Hi Pradheepa,

Whether to convert Write Opt DSO to Standard DSO or not, you need to first understand how BW on HANA Multi-temperature works.

To summarize it; By default:-

HOT - InfoCube, Standard DSO, and Advanced DSO.

- All reporting InfoProviders will be in this, which is constantly reside HANA In-memory.

WARM (Active/non-Active Concept) - Advanced DSO, Write-Opt DSO, DataSource

- In the case of memory bottleneck occurs, Priority setting of Active and Non-active will determine which data have the lower priority will be removed from Memory.

WARM (Dynamic Tiering): Write-Optimized DSO and DataSource

- Data stored in either memory or Disk in columnar format. Data processing using algorithms optimized for Disk-based Data.

COLD (BW NLS): InfoCube, Standard DSO, Write-Opt DSO

- This is set if the InfoProviders above are no used in Reporting, or the InfoCube have the same direct mapping as the DSO.

These are the default setting for the InfoProviders mentioned.

E.g.

aDSO can be set to HOT or WARM Active/non-Active) but not Warm (Dynamic Tiering).

InfoCube can only be on HOT, or deactivated, since the data in DSO can be made reporting.

So if you don't need to use write-Optimized DSO for reporting, best to leave it as it is.
