Hi experts
what is the reason for deleting past dated planned orders in SAP ECC system? Any business reasons. If the past date planned orders are not deleted will they interfere in the MRP plan run.Can you plz elaborate purpose of deleting. Till what date the deletion needs to be done.
Thanks
Sakthi
Hello
Since these planned orders are in the past, the originally planned dates should not be feasible anymore, therefore, the purpose of deleting old firmed planned orders is to allow MRP to create new planned orders with fresh and feasible dates.

Hi Caetano,
1. Will the old planned orders get automatically firmed if their date becomes older than today's date? Means till the date becomes older than the current today's date, will they not be firmed. Or they will be firmed even when created? What is the logic based on which these planned orders get firmed.
2. Once firmed, the planned orders cannot be changed by MRP run. That is why we have to delete them as the only possible option?
2. Although the planned order dates become old and can be deleted, the requirements date will still remain old and cannot be changed.Once old planned orders are deleted, what dates will the new orders will be scheduled.
Thanks

Sakthi,

No
What is the logic based on which these planned orders get firmed.
It is not necessary to firm any planned orders. This is a business decision. You can firm them manually one-by-one using MD12. You can run MDAC to firm/unfirm selected planned orders en masse. It is also possible to have MRP, for certain MRP types, to automatically firm orders within the planning window if you wish.
Once firmed, the planned orders cannot be changed by MRP run.
Yes, they cannot
That is why we have to delete them as the only possible option?
No, that is not the only possible option. Some companies leave past due planned orders as they are. Again, it is a business decision. As mentioned by expert Caetano, past due orders are logically infeasible, so it may be beneficial for some companies to delete them and replace them with feasible orders.
Although the planned order dates become old and can be deleted, the requirements date will still remain old and cannot be changed.
Well, anything can be changed if you really want to change it. However, MRP won't change independent demands (PIRs, Sales demands, etc)
Once old planned orders are deleted, what dates will the new orders will be scheduled.
That depends upon configuration. You can configure MRP to continue to match the requirements date, regardless of whether or not the date is in the past. You can also configure MRP to create new procurement proposals with a start date of 'today'.

Hi DB,
Thank you for the detailed answer.
1.You can configure MRP to continue to match the requirements date, regardless of whether or not the date is in the past.
What settings needed here to match exact requirements date -either past or future?
2.You can also configure MRP to create new procurement proposals with a start date of 'today'.
What settings needed to create new proposals with today as start date?
Thanks
Sakthi
