Problems opening Word documents via SAP Business Client

Former Member

Dear Experts,

We are experiencing a problem where SAP Business Client (via IE) is not able to determine the default app in Windows for opening documents such as Word (etc.). We get a popup that requests user to chose an app for opening the file (no option to chose the default app).

If we try opening the same URL in IE directly it works fine, just via SAP Business client it seems not to be reading IE settings. Does anyone else have similar problem?

The attached image holds the sample of the URL used, how it is read via SAP Business Client and how via IE. It seems when opening via IE the File Name can be read, but not when opening the same URL via SAP Business Client. Are we missing a setting for our client?

Help much appreciated.

Many thanks!

Dear Experts,

Found a SAP note: 1884278 that points to MS documentation: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa767731(v=vs.85).aspx describing opening files in document systems.

Sadly testing this it did not work if we tried in IE or SAP Business Client.

So far, next to above, I also developed a BSP code that opens the link in a separate window, but could not force the link to open from the Side Panel in the IE instead of a separate SAP Business Client Tab.

Thank you,

Matevz

Hello Matevz,

I'd rather check the following Note for this symptom, this is specifically for NWBC:

#2081162 - File Download in NWBC for Desktop does not open files as expected

Best regards

Hello Melinda,

Thank you for your reply. I have checked the note and seems already implemented. Also in our IE the same link is properly handled (it opens Word file directly as expected).

Researching on. If any other ideas, please share and I will let you know of the solution when found as well.

Many thanks,

Matevz
