Extending an article to a storage location

Dear All,

I am new to retail module and maintaining article master data.  Many idocs are failing in receiving system with error message that Article A1... does not exist in storage location SITE1 STL1. Please let me know if there is any way to extend an article to  multiple storage locations in a site.

Regards,

Manasa

Can you please explain briefly on how articles can be extended to differnt storage locations using WSP4?

Hi Manasa,

to fix this manually, you can go into MM42, Logistics View with your Site SITE1 and then enter STL1 into storage location and save. With this, corresponding segment should be created.

In general: you have to check your process to see, if the necessary Storage Location segments are created before your IDOCs come in. If not, you should figure out a way to ensure is. Manual creation can fix some issues but is no suitable way for a "living" process.

already a different storage location is filled in storage location field under storage data  of Logistics:DC view. Now if I enter a different value, will that storage location gets changed or article gets extended to newly entered storage location? and also how can I check the storage locations for which the article is maintained from article master data instead of checking in table MARD.

Hi Manasa,

"if I enter a different value..." --> as soon as you save with the new value, the article gets extended with the new value in MARD. The old value remains.

Without doing some research, I am not aware that there is an convenient overview in SAP Standard, how to check for which storage location an article is maintained. Maybe the easiest way would be to create a query...

Hi Manasa,

I think you can activate automatic creation of storage location when article is extended.

Check the inventory parameters for sites in configuration where you can activate creating SLoc data automatically. Also you can active automatic creation of SLoc data in movement type.

With these settings, you do not have worry about extending manually.

I hope this will help.

Amit

Hello Manasa:

The usual case is that one default storage location (SLOC) is used for all Articles in a merchandise category (e.g. 0001) and that SLOC is maintained in the reference article assigned to the merchandise category.  Without a common default SLOC for Sites you will have problems with listing.

Additional SLOC may be created that may vary from site to site.

In addition to use of reference articles, use T-Code OMJJ to activate "Create SLoc Automat."
