hey Christian,

Perhaps this document will help you:

why not use LSMW to create your data?

cheers,

Well unfortunately My client does not allow the use of LSMW. I have tryed the Excel IBIP tool, I just cant get it to generate my text, Do you have a version that works?

I'm afraid I don't, and I've never used this IBIP Excel tool either.

As suggested above you can easily create a template, take the IBIP structure for the object, in the top row show the field name and the row below show the field length. This will help you understand the field widths. When creating data through IBIP you need to ensure you have the next field starting at the correct position as the file you prepare has to be a FIXED WIDTH file.

MS Access is perhaps a better option to prepare the file for IBIP load. From Excel to flat file you will lose the extra spaces between two fields but MS Access will maintain the actual field widths hence, your data will load in to the correct fields as the text file will be fixed width. To achieve the same in Excel you can perhaps look for a Excel macro that creates a fixed width file, i.e. after each field it pads it out with extra spaces.

cheers,

K
