Hi Experts,

We are planning to upgrade portal 7.0 sp20 to portal 7.4.

Please advice if any precautions required and which issues may come after upgrade.

We are also upgrading ECC 6.0 EHP3 to EHP7.

Your response will be appriciated.

Regards,

Vamshi.

Hi Vamshi,

The following things needs to be considered before the upgrade.

1. If you are using SAP standard components without any modification - You can update your system without any issues.

2. If you are using modified components or own developed custom components, SUM will not be able to handle these components upgrade. Here you have two options.

     i. Generate the modified component's successor version for the target system using NWDI ( contact your portal consultant, he/she has to generate SCA files for the modified components with target version)

or

ii. Undeploy the modified/custom components and proceed with upgrade - Caution : you will loss all of the customization

We have faced issues in the deploy shadow instance step in the pre-processing phase. we had to reset the upgrade as generated stack XML was wrong. Kindly refer these notes and make the correct configuration in LMDB before you generate stack XML.

SAP Note: 1929581 - DEPLOY-SHADOW-INSTANCE fails with message Could not update components

other important notes:  1909625 - SAP Netweaver 7.4 Portal upgrade - which XSS packages to use

1931138 - LVSM error "wrongly configured product instances SAP XSS (Self Service) (SAP ERP      6.0) of Product System <SID> in Solution Manager 7.1 SP4

After the upgrade, your portal team may have to check each and adopt the changes. for e.g; we have switched to ABAP web dynpro from JAVA.

Also, please refer the guides and suggested blogs. cheers.

Hope this helps.

Thanks and regards,

Pradeep
