Transportation Relevance for Delivery Types

Hi,

we are using delivery type LF worldwide. For our company in Germany this delivery type LF should become relevant for transportation as we are going to use shipments in future. Does this have any consequences to all other companies that won't use shipments? Is this flag just optional? That means shipment can be created but it's no must?
