master data load

Former Member

Hello all,

I have this funds management cube and the R/3 side has loaded some master data for commitment items and comp_code and some more ( just master data). and now client wants to load this data in the cube ( just for testing purposes) before they even load the transaction data. Can i be able to do that, if i replicate the data sources and create a infopackage to load just this master data what are the changes that i have to make in transfer structure and communication structure. Please advice.

Thanks for all the help in advance.

hi KM,

Identify the data sources of your master data in administration work bench under infosources tab. Give the source system of ur r/3. create infopackage then schedule the load.

No Problem...

Hi KM,

Typically the master data is loaded before the transaction data is loaded. But if you have the data ready to be loaded you can load it. There is no harm even if you dont load the trasnaction data later.

Yes dinesh,

i got the thing about loading the master data and transaction data, typically the master data is loaded first and then transaction data and when u load the transaction data it will pick up the master data for that particular infoobjects.

Thanks again to you and bhanu.

"when u load the transaction data it will pick up the master data for that particular infoobjects. "

Actually when you have loaded and activated the master data, the transactional load is a bit easier for the system as it can find the char values for an InfoObject and does not need to create them (and Sids) during the transactional load.

Hope this helps...

Bhanu,

Thanks for making things more clear technically as well.

It was helpful.

Hi KM,

The datsources you have mentioned - 0COSTCENTER_ATTR, 0COSTCENTER_TEXT, 0COMP_CODE_ATTR, 0COMP_CODE_TEXT are all master data attribute/text datasources hence they cannot be loaded into a cube. To load data into a cube you need a transaction datasource. When the cube is loaded it would pick the master data from the info-objects into which data has been already been loaded.

Hope I have clarified your doubt.

Thanks bhanu and dinesh,

Yes dinesh now you perfectly cleared my doubt, one more question so how and when we can load the master data if we have that sitting in R/3 side for those particular infoobjects?

Thanks again for all the input.

Hi K M,

You can load the master data to the InfoObjects if you have activated the datasource in R/3, replicated it in BW and assigned it to the InfoSource. Create an InfoPackage and you can ste it to load either Full , or Init the delta after which you will be able to execute delta loads.

Hope this helps...

Hi Bhanu,

Yes i got it now correctly. I will do the same thing as you guys suggested and hopefully should not have any issues.

Sorry if I made this small thing too complicated.

Thanks again.

Hi KM,

No. You would not be able to load the cube from these datasources. You would either identify the transaction datsources for your needs or create transaction datasources.

Hi Dinesh, Ravikiran,

I am confused here sort of, So if I have the datsources from R/3 side say ( 0COSTCENTER_ATTR, 0COSTCENTER_TEXT, 0COMP_CODE_ATTR, 0COMP_CODE_TEXT) can i replicate these data sources on BW side and load them in this cube by infopackages. ( Do i have to make any changes in transfer and communication structure for the same?)

I hope i am asking the right question,

Thanks again

Hi K M,

You cannot load to the cube unless you have update rules from the concerned InfoSource. Hope this makes it clearer...
