Dimension for a bar chart

Former Member

Hi all,

I have got a dimension Categories with values A, B, C and D and I need to show in the categories axis of a bar chart the values: A, B, C, D, A+B, C+D.

Could I create a new dimension which contains A, B, C, D and two new values A+B and C+D?

Thanks,

Jonás

Well, Is it possible without creating additional Queries. Yes. Is it a neat approach, may be not

See the steps below. The approach works best when you have minimum number of categories.

Hi narashimman,

Nice trick for small/static set of values. by the way which version of BO you are using? "Measure Names" option is not available for me

I am experiencing a little drawback because the bars in the bar chart have the same colour despite being different measures.

Is there a way to change the colour? I am not finding it.

Thanks,

Jonás

Hi Jonas,

Right click on each of the bar(s) and select Format Data Series and select a different color for each of the measures as needed.

Thanks,

Hi Divya,

[Category]     [Value]

A                    20

B                    30

C                    40

D                    50

I want 6 bars in a chart bar:

A                    20

B                    30

C                    40

D                    50

A+B               50

C+D               90

Thanks in advance,

Jonás

Hi,

Your requirement is similar to the attached link https://scn.sap.com/thread/3873035

You need to get the values for A+B,C+D at the query level itself by using union operator. Please check my comments in attached post.

Hi,

Thanks, your approach would solve what I need to do but I wonder if there is a way to do it in a document level using formulas and creating new variables using the data already loaded in the document.

Thanks again,

Jonás

You can try having multiple queries one for individual values and 2 more for your aggregated values. merge dimensions from all these queries and use in the report.

there are some workarounds people suggests like having like overlapping charts one for individual values and one for summarized values.

but all these are workarounds using formatting not straightaway solutions.

So choose the one optimum for you
