Data migration from one SAP system to another SAP system due to merger.

Hi All,

I want to understand, what would be required for migrating data from one SAP system to another, PA, OM, Time and Payroll are to be migrated. Currently data flows between the two through ALE. The two systems have to be merged.

Which all teams will be involved, and what tools can be used.

Typically how long this activity can last.

What could be areas of concern? I can think of PY only.

Any methodology delivered by SAP to support this?

Will it be similar to any Data migration from non sap to sap, except mapping?

thx

SS

Hi SS,

If it is SAp to SAP teh it it much easier, no need to worry.

  • Critical area is for sure Payroll, need to ask the question, how far back are you going? are you getting payrol history ie cluster data? is it teh same configuration? if not make sure the mapping is done correctly ie from one wage type in system A to another in system B , this applies to custom wage types only
  • Involved teams: Data cleansing team, migration team to do mapping and actual data loads finally payroll, PA and Om teams  to do test runs
  • Time lines depend on how much data you have? normally this is a weekend job or you can do it over night for several days. I have spent weekends in the office migrating data 🙂
  • The SAP standard tool for data loads is LMSW, this is much easier to use and quick to develop, especial SAP top SAP it should be a nice easy job for the data migration consultans wherever you.

I hope this helps, if you have more questions please ask.

Thanks
