Update your AS Java to an SP

Hi there,

We currently have a problem with our Production PI system.

According to SAP Note 1952038 I now have to apply a patch for AS Java.

At present I have only ever patched ABAP via SPAM/SAINT etc. on our ECC system. I have

never patched any Java before.

The PI system is running on SAP NetWeaver 7.3. As I understand I now have to use the SUM

tool to update any Java components????

Just wondering if someone could share with me the basic do's and dont's or any good advice

sonsidering this will be my first time.

I have downloaded two SCA files. Do I place these in the usual /usr/sap/trans/EPS/in area?

Thanks

Andy

    Hi Andy,

Are you applying the patches for the java component?

if yes , then create a folder e.g softwarepatches and place the two SCA files in the system

Then you have to Run the SUM and select the manual option.

In manual option , you have to give the location of directory /softwarepatches.

    Downtime will be require.

If you are updating the SP from sp10 to sp11 , then you have to create a stack for the java system.

You need to have free space 3*<size of the total component>

You need to have free space in /usr/sap/ directory 2*time the size of the software component.

You need to take care of the customized application , which might get disappear from the system.

    Dear Andy,

    Hope you are doing good.

Please see: SAP Note No. 1641062: Single component update and patch scenarios in SUM

It is ideal that you use SUM, but some other tools are also available if you just want to patch couple of files: see note 1715441 .

    Hope this helps.
