Report compatibility between Crystal Reports XI, 2008, and 2016

We have a client that uses Crystal Reports XI (v11). We are delivering a set of reports to them that we authored in Crystal Reports 2008 (v12). Would they be able to safely modify these reports using Crystal Reports XI?

If they purchased Crystal Reports 2016, would they be able to safely modify these reports? Has the report format changed at all from XI through 2016?

Thanks!

    Hi Andrew,

Reports created in CR 2008 can be edited in CR XI however, newer features like the GridValue functions with Crosstabs, optional prompts etc won't work in the older versions.

These reports can be edited with CR 2016 as well.

The report format hasn't changed from XI except for the fact that a lot of new 'features' and functionalities have been added in every iteration since XI.

    Hi Andrew

No guarantees. The format has not changed, but new features have been added. Thus if you take advantage of these in CR 2008 and later, then opening these reports in CR XI will cause issues as CR XI will have no idea what to do with these. CR 2016 will open all reports down to CR 9 without issues and you can modify them there. Reports created before version 9 may or may not work - a lot of variables to consider there...
