How to access IoT MMS data from HCP HANA XS instance on C4A?

Former Member

Hello Experts,

How can I access IoT data (by creating HANA Views on IoT MMS tables - NEO*) in C4A in case I want to build analytics on top of sensors. I have built IoT tables but they reside in HANA XS (<shared>) instance on my HCP trial account.

I have gone through this blog() which talks about linking HANA MDC <trial> database to C4A.

It would be wonderful to have access to IoT data as well on C4A to show smart graphics on top of sensors data directly.

Could you please suggest how to achieve this?

Thanks,

Megha

Hi Mehga,

Its the exact same steps in that blog.

Once you have your analytical view created based on your IoT data (defined in the HCP web IDE), you need to create a HANA Proxy connection to that analytical view in Cloud For Analytics (Step 19).

Hi John,

Those steps and attached files are to make a connection to HANA MDC <trial> database and not HANA XS where IoT data is present. I have checked but my analytical view(on IoT tables) is not appearing to create a model in C4A.

Thanks,

What version of HANA are you running where your HANA XS IoT data resides?

You mean you have IoT data in your HCP database? Correct?

Yes, that's correct. I have enabled IoT services on HCP and built up the MMS cockpit infrastructure(Device Type, Devices, Message Type etc.) in there.

Here are the database version details where IoT data is getting stored on HCP:

Hi Megha,

Make sure your HCP InA service can be accessed with "Basic" authentication

This needs to be configured in the "XS Admin Tool".

You can test the HTTP access by opening the following URL in a browser:

http://<host name>:<XS engine port>/sap/bc/ina/service/v2/GetServerInfo

It should not show an error page. If a user/password authentication dialog comes up, authenticate with the SYSTEM user that you setup.

Can you check the basic authentication from here?

https://<host name>:<XS engine port>/sap/hana/xs/admin

Direct link:

https://<host name>:<XS engineport>/sap/hana/xs/admin/#/package/sap.bc.ina.service.v2.userRole

Also your package where your data resides will also need the Basic authentication enabled.

https://<host name>:<XS engineport>/sap/hana/xs/admin/#/package/<Your Package Name>

Let me know how that goes.

Hi Megha,

Another hint is to make sure your analytical view you created in

https://<host name>:<XS engine port>/sap/hana/ide/editor/

also appears here:

https://<host name>:<XS engine port>/sap/hana/ide/catalog/

Catalog >> _SYS_BIC >> Column View

Hi John,

Thanks a lot for your response!

Can you please advise where can I find "XS Admin Tool" on HCP to set basic authentication as advised by you?

I tried to find it but unable to locate anywhere on HCP.

Many Thanks,

Megha

Hi Megha,

Not sure if there is a link to the admin area from the HCP cockpit

However you can get to the admin view using this URL:

https://<host name>:<XS engine port>/sap/hana/xs/admin

So if you your HCP url is testc4a123.hanatrial.ondemand.com then try:

https://testc4a123.hanatrial.ondemand.com/sap/hana/xs/admin

Hello John,

Thanks for your quick reply.

This is URL of my HCP dashboard:

https://account.hanatrial.ondemand.com/cockpit#/acc/p13267835trial/accountdashboard

This is URL of my Web based HANA dev workbench on top of IoT app:

https://s10hanaxs.hanatrial.ondemand.com/sap/hana/ide/editor/index.html?startURI=p13267835trial/iotm...

After trying many combinations I could finally find - https://s10hanaxs.hanatrial.ondemand.com/sap/hana/ide/editor/index.html?startURI=p13267835trial/iotm... which gives me HANA logon screen. I hope am doing it correctly?

In here as you mentioned I should use SYSTEM user but when I created HANA XS instance it never asked me for any password for this user like it did in case of MDC database. Do I need to setup SYSTEM user for HANA XS instance anywhere on HCP trial account? If so, where and how do I setup it up? I am trying to follow this link-  SAP HANA Cloud Platform

but it talks about productive landscape. I also tried to access Security link on workbench to check out on users and roles but getting below error:

Sorry to trouble you with so many questions.

Thanks,

Megha

Hi Megha,

Can you get to this page:
http://s10hanaxs.hanatrial.ondemand.com/sap/bc/ina/service/v2/GetServerInfo

This is how you know the INA service is active in your landscape.

Also the SYSTEM user may need some extra privileges or you may need to use a different user.

See this Note at this link:

SAP HANA Cloud Platform-Supported SAP HANA Web-based Tools

>>Remember

When using the tools, log on with your database user (not your SAP HANA Cloud Platform user). If this is your initial logon, you will be prompted to change your password. You are responsible for choosing a strong password and keeping it secure.

Hello John,

I don't have access to this link:

http://s10hanaxs.hanatrial.ondemand.com/sap/bc/ina/service/v2/GetServerInfo

Getting below error:

Does that mean INA service is not active for my account? What should I do next?

Also, the link you had shared is for Productive instance while I am on trial one. Is it possible to create database user for trial instance as well?

Thanks,

Megha

Hi Megha, were you able to get this working? If so, can you please close out this question? Thank you, John

Hello John,

Yeah, I was able to access IoT data on BO cloud ( C4A) by moving it from HANA XS instance to MDC on HCP. I am closing this question. Thanks for reminding me.

Best,

Megha
