Increase an existing log area size

Hi Colleagues,

I have been looking around on how to increase a log area or log volume but I have not been seeing a direct answer to that. Is this not possible but the only way is to add a log volume?

I am installing a SAP Content Server with a MaxDB as a storage system and per Content Server sizing the log volume must be 10% of the data volume as per below statement:

On average, how many users are likely to access the content server at any one time?

The goal here is to ensure that the transaction buffer is sufficiently large to allow a number of users to access the content server simultaneously. To this end, the log volume should be approximately 10% of the calculated data volume. In all cases, it should be at least twice the size of the largest expected document. This is so that the content server can handle at least two simultaneous accesses.

Also, in the installation tool at the screen where it asks for the following:

Content Server Data Size [MB]

That specific input field is already asking for the total expected data area size or storage right? For specifying this field, how does it impact the succeeding installation prompts or values? Can it be changed later on?

Regards.

Jennah

Hi Jennah,

As per note 869267,

  1. How can I reduce the size of an existing log configuration?

the only way to adjust the size is to do the recovery with initialization.

The content server should be always accessed from SAP work process level, I do not think the sessions will be much. You can refer to notes below, to adjust the parameters:

1004886 - parameters 7.7

1308217- Parameters 7.8

1346964 - SAP MaxDB Version 7.9 parameter recommendations

Thanks James, so that really means there is no straightforward way to do it unless a recovery of the database.

The log volume is essential to be sized accordingly for a content server especially for big documents where there is a possibility of simultaneous access hence in case it needs to be increased then I hope there was a way.

Do you know which specific parameter could this be related to?

Content Server Data Size [MB]

This is defined during installation.

Jennah

There is parameter showing the size of log area, but we cannot change the size through the parameter.
