SAP GTS and REACH

Former Member

Hi, I see SAP GTS has the hazardous materials handling module, in your opinion is this sufficient to handle REACH processes? (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals)

What can be done? any handy links out there?

Any gaps?

I know EHS-SVT handles REACH but I want to do it all in GTS. Delusional or Realistic ?

Your thoughts please...

Regards

Philip

Dear Phillip

,may be take a look in document:

Most of the important topics are still stated here. Only on high level:

SAP GTS can not support for REACH purposes:

- polymers

- bonded warehous

- three year average

- etc. etc.

If, as discussed,, the production part in SAP ERP is not relevant, you can do REACH part in GTS. But you must then count in SAP GTS which is nearyl no real optionas you do not have any kind of data about the "chemistry". So for tracking as such: SAP EHS SVT is the tool. You can as well use SAP EHS SVT for "blocking" of SAP MM, SD and PP process (nearly on same level as SAP GTS)

so I can implement REACH monitoring only using EH&S? So GTS is only really useful in the safety notification of the cross border docs?

Hi Philips,

Yes and EH&S is mandatory for Hazardous Substance Check service in GTS. You use GTS to integrate this check with compliance check of logistics document.

if there's no production activity, only trading, this might simplify the scenarios? to be honest its hard to see what the exact requirement is other than a periodic report and customs declarations.

But it seems clear enough; a REACH solution comprises EHS and GTS.

Thanks

Whether it is production or trading, from a GTS perspective, the integration between EHS and GTS remains the same.... the heavy part (configuration, checks, etc...) is still on EHS side and GTS will only request from EHS the status of a given document...

In your last post, you said "a REACH solution comprises EHS and GTS". This is not really true, GTS is used here only to centralise all the Compliance checks results, whether the check is done in GTS or EHS. Intregating GTS is not mandatory to manage REACH compliance checks, integration is needed only if you want to see the EHS compliance results in GTS.

Hi Philip,

Unfortunately, delusional to do all the REACH checks in GTS.

You still need to do all the config and data maintenance in EHS-SVT and then GTS will "ask" EHS-SVT about the REACH status through a call as Kul explained. The result of this call is basically EHS-SVT telling to GTS either OK or not OK, nothing more.

In other words, all the REACH logic is in EHS-SVT. GTS is merely retrieving an OK / not-OK status from EHS-SVT.

Hope this helps.

Hi Philip,

As far as I know, GTS makes a call to EHS system to get a status of the hazardous substance check. You can integrate it with your logistics documents and based on the status, decide on follow-on functions.
