Universe Designer - Date Columns Not Seen As Date

Former Member

I'm using universe design tool 4.1 pointing at sql server 2008 database.

When I import a table into the universe, date columns in sql server do not appear in the universe designer as dates. They end up with a C indicating they are a character/text column. I then cannot use sql server date functions in objects.

The screen shots from sql server and universe designer show what I mean:

I would expect the invoice date to appear with a D next to it and not a C.

Is there a setting in the universe designer to resolve this?

Hi,

To change the datatype, go to the data foundation schema and select the table column you want to modify.

Now in the properties editor pane below the data foundation schema, you can change the datatype.

I don't have this option. How exactly do you get to the data foundation schema? The closest thing I can do is look at the Table Browser by selecting Insert>Tables. Even then there are no options on individual columns.

Hi,

Sorry I did not get that you are using Universe Design Tool and not Information Design Tool.

In Universe Design Tool, you don't have this option. However when you create a business object referencing that column you can set the datatype you want.
