Linking Spare Parts Material Master with Machinary

We have the Inventory of Spare Parts in MM Module & are identified as Spares based on Number Ranges.

Now we want to link each of these Inventory item to the Machinary for which it belongs to avoid confusion & better control.

Any suggestion how to go forward

If you are not using the PM Module (equipment/functional locations), then another option is to use material classification to hold the machine references.

As there is no PM module implement, Check Possibility to use of serialized inventory

Create Serial number profile based on Machinery type, use different number range for serial number profile.

Then you have only limited options: label the spare physically. Use classification in the material master and add a class with a characteristic for the asset number.

The Spare Part is created as a Material with Material Master. The Extrenal Number Range used starts with 'SP' to differentiate the Spare Parts.

However, the Machinary do not have a separte identification as we have not implemented PP or PM Modules. The Machinary is identifiable through the Asset Codes in FI - AM Module.

Are you talking about stock or about material master when saying "inventory item" ?

How is "Machinary" defined in your SAP system? which transaction did you use to create it?
