Header record in document flow table VBFA

Hello experts:

I would like to have header entries (item number as "000000") for every document in document flow table VBFA. How to get it done?

We have copy control from sales document to delivery document and from delivery to billing. All items are copied.

Would appreciate your help.

Raj

Hi Raj,

There is no possibility in customizing or copy control to set up the system, that you get such additional document flow entries at header level. And as the entries in VBFA control the open quantities and status in sales order, delivery, and the invoice, it is also a little bit tricky to make any modification in the area.

By the way: For which purpose would you need such header entries? From my point of view the normal document flow at item level contains the header info anyway.

Hi Ulrich:

Thanx for your reply.

To give you a little background. I am both a developer and SD consultant. In my previous assignments where I was only a developer, I used to query document flow with item no. as "000000" to limit the selection for performance reasons. If you notice, I did not have to hard-code item no.s as it is dynamic. So, it was a cool option. It is the case with VBKD table too.

Right now, I work in a highly performance conscious environment where I thought it would be useful to implement what I had experienced before. But I am stuck!! My previous experiences make me think it is possible and hence the question.

Thanks,

Raj

Hi Raj,

Even if it is speeding up your query, all others programs dealing with VBFA will be slowed down by additional entries. So it might an interesting question if you lose or win performance in total.

But you are right, if there were the option to get such entries on header level in VBFA, it would be much easier to implement some queries or reports.

In addition: VBKD at header level might contain different data then the ones on item level (typically the VBKD entries on item level are only created if there are different data at item level).

Best regards, Ulrich
