Solution Manager upgrade to 4.0?

Hi all,

We're using SolMan 3.2 right now. Upgrade from 3.1 to 3.2 to ensure compatibility with NW2004/ERP2005. Some of our folks want to upgrade to SolMan 4.0. We don't use solman for a whole lot yet. We are planning on setting up CUA and CCMS out of our SolMan system.

Does anyone know if Solman 3.2 has any compatibility issues with NW2004s systems? ERP/CRM or BW? ie. If there's no need to upgrade I would rather not.

Thanks,

Kevin

    hi kebucha

solution manager 3.2 does not have a good compatibility with nw2004 bcoz if u want solution manager diagnostics then u hav to install it seperately on java server but with solution manager 4.0 solution manager diagnostics is in built n it has many enhanced features also

the following link will help to u understand the new functionalities of solution manager 4.0

    hi kebucha

    1. Which new features are planned for SAP Solution Manager 4.0?

The upcoming release will focus on three major aspects:

Enhanced support of key customer support processes: The SAP Solution Manager 4.0 release will offer functionality to assist you with your major application management tasks. For example, it will allow you to implement support packages and SAP notes end-to-end. SAP Solution Manager 4.0 will provide functionality to automatically identify relevant patches, and document and manage their implementation, testing, and import to your production systems.

Continuous improvement services: The SAP Solution Manager has detailed information about your solution, such as key business processes and the SAP system landscapes. If your SAP competence center selects the new continuous improvement service offering, a designated SAP contact will be named and will actively work with you on a regular basis to solve your business critical SAP issues.

Technical integration of Solution Manager Diagnostics into the SAP Solution Manager platform. Solution Manager Diagnostics provides all functionality to centrally analyze and monitor a complete NetWeaver system landscape.

    2. When will SAP Solution Manager 4.0 be available?

The start of ramp-up for SAP Solution Manager 4.0 is scheduled for Q4 2005. The mass shipment is planned for the first quarter of 2006.

    3. Does it make sense to start with the usage of SAP Solution Manager already today? Alternatively, is it better to wait until release 4.0 is available?

You should start profting from the benefits of SAP Solution Manager now. Most of the functionality already exists today. SAP Solution Manager 4.0 will be a rounding off. And, there will be a standard upgrade procedure for later transition to the upcoming release.

    regards

We were on 3.2 as well and became a rampup customer for 4.0

The graphicsfor the monitoring are great with controlled implementation of the CCMS from other systems in the landscape.

WE are going to be using it on our upgrade project for ERP2005 and will also be using service and support desk for some of our additional applications to supplement our internal implementation of HEAT for help desk

What we are now wondering about is the change management component as to how hard it is to implement

    Any thoughts would be appreciated

    Ron

Our environment has Enterprise 4.7X200, BW3.5, SRM4.0, E-recruit. they run with 6.4 kernel. They have either 6.2 or 6.4 PI_BASIS. Does anyone know any issue if we use solution manager with this environment.

    Thanks

    Hi,

You need Oracle 10.2 for SM4...

    thats the NW04S pre-requisite.

I have upgraded the DB before the Prepare... otherwise the prepare stops.

for the other question - SM can monitor all of the mentioned solutions..

    Haim.

    Hello all,

I am also planning to upgrade SM 3.2 to 4.0.

I would like to know if anyone has a checklist of the config. steps to be checked

after upgrade for service desk functionality. I am told by SAP that 3.2 to 4.0

    no major changes required.

After upgrade to 4.0, I would like to try out Change Management & Test Management integrating with Mercury QTP.

    Thanks in advance.

    Murali.

    Hi,

We plan to upgrade from Solution Manager 3.2 to 4.0.

We have been told that as a SAP Custommer our best way to do it is to ask Sap Service for an "Upgrade Kit".

After searching the SAP portals at sap.service.com, for several hours y did not found such an offer. May be the reason is: I am not a "SAP Super User".

Please tell me the exact addres, procedure and qualification i need to obtain the upgrade software.

    Claude
