Currency & Valuation Profiles

Hi Experts,

I need to clarify for Currency & Valuation Profiles importance in Controlling especially material ledger.

Currency & Valuation Profile does not required if material ledger not activated - Is my assumption correct or we can use other functionalities also ?

Because my customer does not implement material ledger functionality, so that is the reason I have doubt before creating.
