Hello colleagues,
I am trying to get the CAL Image for SolMan 7.2 to work, but I am having some problems connection via the SAP Logon from my local PC.
Firstly, the system seems to run fine because when I connect via the Remote Desktop (SAP Frontend) I can logon to the SolMan system without any issues. What seems strange is that I cannot ping neither the ABAP External IP Address or the SAP Frontend External IP Address from my local PC (although I can connect to the WTS from my local PC). I have turned off my antivirus program and turned off windows firewall. I am using a private PC with non-corporate internet.
When I use the connect functionality from the CAL interface, I can download a SAP short cut to my local PC. Using this SAP short cut I can actually logon from my local PC to the SAP system.
I can see which IP address the short cut is using and it is the ABAP External IP Address which is mentioned in the CAL interface. I don't understand why I cannot logon to the SAP system when I use this exact IP address and add it manually to my SAP Logon on my local PC.
Any ideas?
Probably related to the above issue, once I am logged in to the SAP system on my local PC via the SAP shortcut, I cannot use any http applications even though I have added the IP and hostname to my local PC's hosts file. I even tried changing the host in the URL manually to the ABAP External IP Address but still no success... From the Remote Desktop http connections are working just fine.
Any help is much appreciated!
Kind Regards,
Philipp
Hi Philipp,
Thanks for moving the discussion out of the original post
I just tried connecting to instance in public internet via SAP GUI and it worked. Are you sure you are using the IP of the ABAP VM? (And not eg. the one of the frontend?) If yes - probably the SAP GUI version is not correct. Mine is 7.40 while yours as I see from the screenshot is 7.30.
Regarding HTTP connections - you need 2 prerequisites:
1. Open HTTP port to internet - this you can do by editing your instance and changing the ports on the Virtual Machine screen.
2. Update you local PC hosts file (eg. c:\windows\system32\drivers\hosts for Windows) to contain the same entries like the Frontend VM. You will need to use the external IPs locally as only these are exposed to Internet. (Hosts file update is specific to the CAL appliance - not to Solution Manager product)
Ping doesn't work as CAL instances come by default with ICMP disabled. This can only be changed from AWS console of your account.
Best Regards,
Ventsislav

Hello Ventsislav,
thank you!!!
Yes, the root cause was the SAP GUI version. Didn't think that mattered as the short cut was working fine with 7.30. I have now installed 7.40 and no problem, I can add the connection manually and connect from my local PC.
For the http connection updating the hosts file was enough. By default, the port is already open on the virtual machine for the SolMan 7.2 image.
Thanks again for your help!

HI Philipp,
I hope you are well
do you have any type of cookbook or howto guide how to create AWS on Amazon which performance and capacity which are going to fits Solman 72 SP1 CAL needs? i
There are huge amount of possibilities on AWS amazon I it is hard to choose correct one .
What is an entry point from the AWS side in order to get Solman 72 SP1 up and running .
Thank you in advance for your replay.
Boris
Hello Boris,
I just used the presentation from SolEd (I think you have it too, right?). It is not 100% complete but the rest is not too complicated
For the sizing, I would just use what they recommend in the CAL interface after you pick the SolMan 72 solution. I actually downsized the JAVA part as I thought I won't use it that much but it turned out I downsized it too much and then the SLD wasn't running properly. It took me a while to figure out that the root cause was the sizing
If you run into any issue just send me a mail
