Dear all,

i am still confused what is the correct technical way to get Netweaver 7.51.

We have a new installed system containing the components as you can see in the attached screenshot. Uploading the system data to support portal via solution manager worked fine. But maintenance planer doesent give us a option to upgrade the netweaver component.

In the download portal i can find files for the 7.51 Innovation but what is the way to install it?

System is running on Windows Server 2012R2 with MS-SQL Database

Any Ideas?

Best regards

Good morning Jan,

in case you have an ERP system then there is currently no chance to upgrade to Netweaver 7.51.

AS ABAP 7.51 Innovation Package is the foundation for S/4HANA 1610, but is also available as a standalone platform for:

  • FIORI development based on Core Data Services with direct oData exposure for easy UI5 consumption
  • Custom code management for a managed transition of custom ABAP code from classical Business Suite to S/4HANA

SAP NetWeaver Application Server ABAP 7.51 Innovation Package is not a full SAP NetWeaver release.
It contains innovations for the ABAP stack, but does not contain a Java stack.
SAP NetWeaver hubs such as Business Warehouse, Enterprise Portal or Process Orchestration are not included.
Upgrade to 7.51 is supported for usage type AS ABAP for SAP NetWeaver 7.4 and 7.5 only.

Please check SAP Note 2372388 for more information.

Hello Andreas,

I have the same kind of question around the Netweaver AS ABAP 7.51 availability.

Currently we'd like to install BPC 10.1 on top of SAP_BW 7.51 based on SAP Netweaver 7.51 abap stack.

Although I can find reference to this configuration in SAP notes and BPC 10.1 installation guide, I can't find the installation media related to the SAP Netweaver AS ABAP 7.51 full stack ( I mean not Innovation package which seems to be some kind of pre-version ).

If I understand it right, it seems like the Netweaver 7.51 Innovation Package is not intended for BW usage ( SAP NetWeaver hubs such as Business Warehouse, Enterprise Portal or Process Orchestration are not included ) ?

Is that correct ?

As I can't find the Netweaver 7.51 AS ABAP installation media in the market place, I guess it is not fully GA yet. Am I right ?

Thanks & Best regards,

Hi Steve,

yes, 7.51 Innovation is not GA.

You are also right with the not supported BW part (see note 2323497 and 2350408).
The innovation package is not a complete Netweaver. There is no Java or BW functionality. It is AS ABAP only.

Best regards,

Hi Andreas Lichtenau, Good Day.

We have just upgraded from NW 7.4 SPS15 to NW 7.5 SPS9 due to maintenance planner not supporting SAP Geteway 2.0 components that were installed in the system. We are also in the similar situation and finding way now to upgrade from NW 7.5 SPS9 to NW 7.51 Innovation Package. As per your answer above now we understand that it is not possible to go with this path.

Question 1 : Is it possible to have all the NW 7.51 Innovation Package functions and capabilities in our NW 7.5 SPS9 ? If it is please advise how can we follow ?

Question 2 : Is there any other work around that we can follow to make it If it possible to upgrade to NW 7.51 Innovation Package ? Other then the need to restore back to NW 7.4 SPS15 and then re-upgrade to NW 7.51 Innovation Package with deinstallation of SAP Geteway 2.0 components.

Your kind sharing will be really helpful to shed some light to the situation.

Best Regards,

Ranmit Singh
