How to stop create equipment for serial numbers

As per the business requirement, we are using serial numbers for finished goods and semi finished goods material. And the serial numbers are generated at the time of usage decision performed by quality team. Here the concern is equipment number getting created for every single serial number also the equipment number is being wasted. Though I have created for different category of equipment and assigned to serial number profile. Looking for solution, is there any way of stop creating equipment number for the above said business scenario.

Since we are not assigned any equipment category in serial number profile, system is taking default equipment category. If remove the default equipment category for serial number. System throws a short dump error at the time of usage decision.

Go to transaction OIS2. Select the serial number profile you are working with. Open serialization procedure and select the one that applies. (I guess it will be Maintain goods receipt and issue) The column on the right (EqReq) is where you can change action to create an equipment master or not.

I agreed. In my case i have not maintained full equipment but still system allowing me to create notification for equipment which created at the time of serial number.

Hi,

If you have a serial number there must be an equipment (EQUI) record. System will not work without this. You can choose that the equipment is a rudimentary entry only or has full equipment view. Define this for the serial profile in transaction OIS2.

There is no separate object for serial number range. Serial number profile is attach to Equipment category and it will use the number range of same equipment category.

equipment number = material number + serial number
