SAP HANA DB Cloning Using Studio

Former Member

Hello,

We are currently doing SAP HANA DB backups using backint to HP data protector. The SAP HANA DB backup catalog captures the information regarding the backup.

So, if we were to setup a new, homogeneous system, we would not have the backup catalog information. My questions:

1. Can Studio be configured to ask HP Data Protector for a specific backup/restore of another system ? Settings or configuration ?

2. Can the backup catalog table be exported from old site and imported into a new site ? If so, once imported, can the backup/restore work from studio ?

Thank you in advance...

Cheers!

Hi Gregorio.

Will you have two identical system´s in your landscape? (They will have to have different SID´s.)

Regarding your two questions, it may be possible, but i dont think that is SAP Supported

So, to acomplish the setup of a new SAP HANA SYSTEM with the a backup from an original SAP HANA you can follow this:

Hello Osvaldo,

Thank you for the prompt reply. We will be using identical landscapes but with different SIDs for the different tiers ( production, staging, training, etc. ). We are heavily invested in HP Data Protector and looking to standardize our refreshes/cloning procedures ( using Studio and HP DP ). The current HP DP SAP HANA plugin does not offer scheduling, backup or restore features from the HP DP GUI. Everything we do is driven by the SAP HANA studio. So, we were hoping to do everything from Studio and use HP DP as our repository.

Taking tips from this awesome site, we have been able to refresh our environment manually. Taking backups, copying them to a new site and restoring them from command line ( Full backup and Point-in-Time recoveries )...prod -> stage, etc.

Cheers!
