Add application server on TDMS

Hello

If I add one or more application servers to my TDMS it is then possible to parallelize the processes to be able to make data transfer faster and my

TDMS more performant?
TDMS in the documentation does not say anything about the application server

Thank you
Sandro

Check TDMS Central/Control instance CPU and Network utilization first. If it close to 100% all the time with min 15-20 DISP+WORK data selection/transfer processes running in parallel add mode CPU Cores and RAM (can be easily done in today's virtual environment) instead of dealing with app server configuration and support complexity in distributed installation.

Please note, that most performance bottlenecks you'll have to deal with in TDMS Landscape resides on the given Source and/or Target systems, not on properly sized TDMS Control/Central instance. Fine DB tuning especially important in demanding TDMS runs despite number of parallel processes, which constantly will be waiting for DB response in case of low I/O performance.

Thanks for the reply Andrew

So if I had some application servers on the system sender could use multiple processes in parallel to the receiver to transfer data? the concept is to RFC that is used in making the client copy? This might make you think faster data transfer?
Thank you

Yes, additional app. server connected to the Sender system can handle even more parallel TDMS Data Selection and Data Transfer work processes, just be sure that Control/Central and DB instance can handle efficiently corresponding sessions.

You can monitor gain in TDMS throughput (rec/sec) using Tx. MWBMON or DTLMON (by scheduling periodic performance tracking job).

First make TDMS RFC connections to the Source system load-balanced to distribute TDMS workload among available app. servers equally, then increase gradually number of parallel jobs used in TDMS package Data Selection / Transfer phases. Keep in mind that number of workprocesses on the Sender <= number of available processes on TDMS Control/Central instance, which is less performance demanding.
