Looking into IBP 5

Hello IBP gurus,

We are planning on IBP 5 in our company. Coming from a classic APO background I am trying to map things to APO DP. i am unable to see how to add existing KFs to my planning area. From the documentation I see the only option is to create KFs for a specific Pl Area. My question is, will the system know from the custom KF properties how to execute for the right results?

Thanks,

Subash

As Anil described, you must have planning levels first. But if you try to use "copy" button, you must have already an existing keyfigure to copy and with that a planning level should already exist

From your screenshot it looks as if you try to create the very first one as nothing is displayed. Than you need to click "create" as you dont have anything to copy.

But if you have created already some keyfigures and nothing is displayed, it may be an issue with the browser as well. I sometimes have issues in IBP5 with certain functionalities.

Than you may try the following

1) Try all browsers, maybe oe will work, e.g.IE - Google Chrome - Fire Fox For me, at the moment I cannot for example download the actovation log with IE, for that I switch to
Chrome

2) If you work with IE, try to log off and start IE new with "in private browsing" - enter the URL and log in again

3) If that does not work - or even more if that does work as it should not be necessary - create an OSS message so that development can fix it

Good luck

Thanks Irmi and Anil.

i managed to create the Planning level and one KF for my planning area. I ran into multiple issues like no stored KF, calculation graph error etc. I was able to rectify all of them by downloading the log and now my planning area is active. My plan is to load the KF today and see whether I can see the data in IBP Excel add in. I am assuming that I would be able to see the data in the Excel add in. Ultimately we will do HCI integration but the capability to get a hang on file loads good vets me an opportunity to test stuff.

THanks again,

Subash

Hi Subash

Basic differences of keyfigure calculations between APO DP and IBP:

In APO, you first create the keyfigure in RSA1 and in a seperate step you assign it to the planning area and to the planning views

And in APO, you define the formula for macros per planning view (or book), and they run on the level you just work on (except when using function modules/BADIs). So in case you want to valuate a keyfigure with a value and you price is on lowest level, you very often need to run a batch job to valuate on lowest

In IBP, you directly create a keyfigure WITHIN the planning area by first choosing the planning area you work in and than within create the keyfigure.

And you attach the formula directly to the keyfigure, so whatever view you have will always have the same logic and you dont need to care if you change it in one view that you have to adjust all macros in other views. And you define in the keyfigure calculations on which level of aggregation the calculation shall run. Only when working with Excel macros or when defining formula at request level only you work on the level you see.

And as stated before, you can either simply create from scretch or by copying from an existing key figure - but first select the planning area you work in

This is version-indepedend, no matter whether you have IBP 3, 4 or 6

Help can be found in the online documentation or in the config guide for release 5 in http://help.sap.com/download/ibp/ibp50_sps5_model_conf.pdf

Thank Irmi and Avijit,
h

But when I go to Key Figures area after I create the Pl Area and try to click the COPY icon nothing happens.

Also when I try to create the pop up does not even show the Planning Levels.

So what am I missing?

Thanks,

Subash

Hello  Subash

Please correct my understanding

Did you created planning area ZTRAIL002 manually? or you used any existing standard planning area SAP1  to SAP5?

iF you created  planning  area manullay than first   there is need to create planning level then only  you can create KF.

I started learning IBP  copying SAP sample planning area using advance copy function

Not sure this helps

Hello Subash,

If I understand you correctly what you are trying to achieve then this might help.

You can add an existing KF to your planning area through COPY functionality.Select the existing KF,click on COPY button (placed beside Create New),provide a unique description. If you want, you can make calculation changes after the creation, this will act just like any other KF.

Hope this helps.
