Hi Experts,

We have a requirement to search KM documents using TREX.

Trex has been configured in our system.

Kindly suggest on the steps what we need to be followed to enable the search option.

Also on what basis the document search should be done? Do we need to follow any indexing?

Kindly suggest.

Regards,

Devi.

Hi Devi,

In Order to work with the Indexing you need to follow:

For Which portal objects are indexed , follow:

Hi Devi,

Before making any changes make sure URL GENERATOR SERVICE is configured properly in System Configuration-->Knowledge Management-->Global Services. (URL GENERATOR SERVICE--> HOST should be portal's URL )

If you are using SAP EP 7.0 then you need to change TREX service in Visual Admin Tool with help of basis team. Service name is same which needs to be maintained(i.e. TREX Service --> NameServer.address).

If you are using SAP EP 7.3 or Higher version then you need to maintain TREX service in:

NWA-->Configuration-->Infrastructure -->Java System Properties--> Service--> search for "TREX Service"--> Now Select TREX service and check EXTENDED PROPERTIES at bottom of screen...

There is a property "NameServer.Address"(host or IP address of TREX server) which needs to be maintained for the trex service.

These both steps are mandatory for document searching.

And 1 more thing is that if you try to search PDF files then you need to maintain MIME types in System Configuration --> Knowledge management-->Utilities-->Mime types-->select & Enable PDF.

After making all these changes you need to take restart of Portal.

Please share results after doing all changes.

Hi Devi,

It would be better if you provide the actual flow which you might have implemented to use TREX. Well let me just brief you on the steps which I followed to use TREX. Below are the steps which I followed before creating the index.

Step 1:Assign a CM to the below KM schedule task.Go to System Administration > System Configuration > Knowledge Management > Content Management > Global Services > Scheduler Tasks.Edit the Index Management Task Queue Reader to add an available CM system in it

Step 2:Create a HTTP System under > System Admin -> Knowledge Management -> Content Management -> Global Services -> System Landscape Definitions -> Systems

Step 3: Create a website as per the below details.

System Admin -> Knowledge Management -> Content Management -> Repository Managers -> Web Sites

Step 4: Create a website as per the below details.

In System Admin -> Knowledge Management -> Content Management -> Repository Managers -> Repository Managers  -> Web Repository create a new web repository:

Step 5:Navigate to Content Admin > KM Content > root and make sure that there is a folder with the same as web respository.

Step 6:Navigate to System Admin -> System Configuration -> Knowledge Management -> Content Management -> Global Services -> Crawler Parameters

Enable Standard Crawler Service

Create Index Management Crawler as per below specification.

Select Standard -> Duplicate to create a separate copy of the standard crawler with a depth limit of 8..

Step 7: System Admin -> System Configuration -> Knowledge Management -> Index Administration create a new index.

If you properly follow these steps ,result would be without any error.

Please feel free to credit points if helpful.

Hi Prabha,

We have followed all the steps in the link given- Configuring the Indexing of Portal Content - Configuring the Portal for Initial Use - SAP Library, but we were not able to find the service parameter-com.sap.km.appl.portal.indexing.framework in order to restart it in the last step given-Configure the Search UI . Please help us as to where to find this parameter.

Thanks,

Devi

Hello Devi,

I hope the post operations on TREX side have been performed to enable the WEB component ( On Apache or IIS). Because without it, the indexing on Trex side is not possible at all.

The scenario

KM Document search using Trex

requires a web application installed between Trex and the portal. Without the webserver no communication between the two systems is possible.

Hi Devi, it's dependent on where the TREX installed - Linux or Windows. Could you please look into the TREX installation guide. You can find the corresponded information in the section "Configuring the TREX Web Server". Best regards, Mikhail
