Good morning,

A language pack needs to be installed in our SAP environment. Do we need to convert to UNICODE first in order to do this?

What are the benefits of converting to UNICODE?

Thanks

Jack

Kindly refer the SAP Note for which languages are supported in Unicode and Non Unicode systems 73606 - Supported Languages and Code Pages.

Refer the SAP Note for point number 6 1322715 - Unicode FAQs

If possible convert the system to unicode. because New SAP system supported Unicode systems.

in an non Unicode system you can only use single byte or the old SAP multibyte character sets.

The capabilities of these character sets are very limited.

So - if your company has subsidaries in countries which need to use different 8-Bit charactersets to store all their local characters (see also https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO/IEC_8859-1), you will not be able to handle this in a unique way with a non-unicode characterset.

Unicode (OK, there also different Unicode-Characterset UCS-16, UTF-8...) is able to store this information in one characterset.

But a unicode-conversion takes time, resources...

Thanks Peter,

Does that mean a unicode-conversion is not a pre-requisite for a language install?

From what I can see on your link Portuguese has full coverage which means no unicode conversion needed?
