Extract data from SAP R/3 to SAP BI

Hi experts,

I am kind of new in SAP BI so I apologise if these questions might have been answered before.

I am planning to extract data from R/3 system to SAP BI. I know somehow the process of extracting and loading these data to BI from the R/3 source system but my questions are:

1. Can I extract data from R/3 system - (Ex.Material Management application component) and load it into Z-InfoObjects in SAP BI?

2. If I have loaded the required data from R/3 to BI system using Z-InfoObjects (BI-side) and then loading these Z-InfoObjects into a DSO, if later I would like to delete these Z-InfoObject or maybe delete the newly created DSO, does this mean that by deleting them I am also deleting the data in the R/3-side (source system) or somewhere else where these data is in Production in (R/3 side)? If I do any change (delete or update) in SAP BI side to the data that is extracted from R/3, will it affect the data and tables in R/3-side?

Thanks in advance for your time and effort.

Regards,

Regys

Hi,

1, Yes, you can load R/3 Data to Zinfo objects in bw side if you designed proper data flow design.

2.  BW data/objects deletion doesn't effect on ECC system. So you can delete what you want at bw side.

To update changed data from ECC to BW, you can introduce delta pointer to your specific data source(if supports delta) and load delta data to bw targets(thru process chains frequently).

Thanks

yes you can load the data from r/3 into bi for any info object

delete the data based on your requirement ... you can delete the previous data improve the system performance

if there is any changes in bi side not reflectd in ecc side

1. yes: you can load data into Z-object

2. no: deleting data in BI has no effect on the data in R/3
