Asset Transfer via ABUMN - Negative Values

Hi All!

I have a final asset with capitalization date 12/04/2015 and default depreciation start date on 01/31/2016 with acquisition cost of 100, now I need to zero this out and transfer it to multiple other final assets under same company code and below is the expected entry;

Dr.  Asset 1 - 50

       Asset 2 - 30

       Asset 3 - 20

Cr. Asset 0 - 100

However, I am getting an error "negative values in area 01" in ABUMN if I'm using 12/04/2015 or 12/31/2015 posting & asset value date. I ticked the "negative posting allowed" in the sender asset but a depreciation amount was calculated for receiver assets for December when their dep start should be 01/2016 (there should be no dep. for dec. for the receiver assets).

Last thing I tried is changed the dep. start date of sender asset to 12/31/2015 (from 1/31/2016) and the transfer was successful and this is okay since the sender asset is just like a pass-through asset. However, I cannot understand the reason why the dep. cal. start matters in the transfer when I'm just transferring the acquisition cost which is the only value available on transfer date (no dep yet for Dec.).

Thanks!

As of date, below is the final solution we have implemented;

1. Set dep. key of asset sender to "no depreciation" since this will be zeroed out same date as capitalization date.

2. Upon creation of various asset receiver, the capitalization date will already be set on 12/31/2015 and dep. start date on 1/01/2016. So that when transfer happens with value date 12/31/2015, there won't be any depreciation to be calculated for Dec. for the various asset receivers.

Thanks!

Hi,

The depreciation calculation on receiver assets, depends on the period control method maintain for the transfer of the dep.key. So check the method of it.

HI Mukthar,

Thanks! but I don't think I need to change the period control 'coz as per general settings of the co.code, dep.start date is always +1 month from date of capitalization/acquisition. However, for the asset receiver from ABUMN the dep. start date is set up correctly which is 01/2016 since capitalization date or transfer date is 12/2015 (+1 month), but the system keeps on computing depreciation for December even if dep.start is already set at 01/2016.
