STOCK POLICY ANALYSIS

Former Member

Hi All,

I need to develop a report to assess material commodities under their scope with respect to stock policy settings.

REQUIREMENT

Report will be used to analytically assess and provide decision making data to enable adjustments of SAP stock policy settings that would generate optimum settings for; MINIMUM STOCK, SAFETY STOCK, REORDER POINTS, ETC. Report will first be used for an initial review of current settings and then to be run on a monthly basis for on-going analysis and maintenance of optimum settings.

Required Column Layout for Report:

Minimum Lot Size

Reorder Point

Rounding Value

Total Plant Stock – total plant stock in storage locations including stock in project elements and blocked stock.

Monthly demand - current and forward demand displayed in monthly columns, 12 columns for first 12 months demand and then remainder in column 13

Monthly Usage – historic monthly usage displayed in monthly columns, 12 columns for first 12 months usage and then remainder in column 13

MY QUESTION

1. Can BW’s Inventory management scenarios handle this or will it be easier to do it via ABAP?

2. If BW can, how do I go about it? Really don’t know where to start so any assistance would be well appreciated.

Thanks

Milind

Milind,

Where to start in BW might be a bigger question than whether to use it for this one report. You would probably have to put in some effort getting up and running before you create your first report... on the other hand if its already available then you would just be building on an existing process.

We have been dealing with similar requirements at our company. Although you may have different business processes maybe some of this will help you. By "Inventory Management scenarios" I assume you mean delivered Business Content....

The first part of your report requiremnets are based on master data in BW - Material Master and attributes. You may need to enhance what is delivered.

Total plant stock - there is delivered business content that can probably account for that requirement (Material Movements cube - Company, plant, material, sloc, etc. and stock type ie. Project, restricted, QI, etc.

Requirements - We use planned reservations as part of our requirements. There is no delivered business content for Reservation documents. We had to create our own extract, ODS (flat file structure) and cube that aggragates material/plant over time.

Usage/consumption - we haven't extracted this yet, but it looks like the same scenario as reservations (no business content). We are either going to create a unique extract/ODS/Cube, or consider enhancing the Materials movement cube noted above.

Once you have these structures in BW, you can combine them into a new structure/cube that will include all your report requirements.

The benefit to doing this in BW is that your users will be able to do more dynamic analysis on the fly rather than downloading in excel and creating calculation each time, etc. Hope that helps

Hi Bill,

Thanks for your response. Regarding the Requirements and Usage/consumption can the snapshot scenario handle this?

Hi,

I don't think snapshot can help but try if you have feasible resources.

Sorry, for misunderstanding your requirement. To start with you need to start building right from scratch. But you have extractors given by SAP from R/3 side. You just need to work on BW side.

Hi,

you are with the right doubt. BW can handle these scenarios. you can create a report in BEx. but have you to design and develop the required infrastructure and get data into BW on which we can report.

I hope this will help you.

Hi,

In such a case whether all the objects required for the report are available in the respective infoprovider or not. If available why wait...start desinging the query in the BEx.

Awarding points is right measure in SDN.

Hi,

I think you misunderstood me. I need to design and develop the required infrastructure and get the required data on which to build the report into BW.
