Hi experts,
I have three doubts regarding BOM in plant maitenance.
1) How to make a Equipment or Functional Location BOM available for more than 1 plant? Please explain the procedure.
2) Can we make one BOM is available for any 2 plant out of 5 plants in a company?
3) Can we create more than one equipment BOM or Functional location BOM for equipment or Functional location? I understood from other treads that we can have material BOM via construction type field along with equipment or FL BOM?
While answering please mention the Question number. It will be useful for other readers also.
Thank you
Hello Renjit,
1. I do not think it is possible to have cross plant BOMs. BOM is always for a specific plant. There is a provision for making a BOM without plant which is called BOM making it possible to assign to any one plant later.
2. Because of the negative answer ot Question 1, this question is not applicable.
3. There is a confusion here. I see 2 queries here:
a) Whether we can make more than one BOM for Equipment or F/Locn or Material. The answer is 'Yes' . That is Alternative BOM. When you try to create a BOM for Equipment/FLocn/Material for which already a BOM exists, then system takes it as 1st alternative BOM and assigns no. 1 in the Alternative BOM field.
b) About Construction type: Construction type is nothing to do with a BOM. It is an field in Equipment master/FLocn master where you can put a material number. This indicates that, this particular Equipment can also be identified by this material number. This is shown in the Plant Structure with a Brown line. Means is shown as if the Equipment is having an Equipment BOM with one component. Then when you make a Material BOM on this Construction type material, the BOM will be displayed in the plant structure.

Hi Rao,
Let me clarify myself:
For answer 1). We need to create Tech: Obj: BOM with out specifying a plant in IB11,IB01 or CS01. These BOMs are called as Group BOM.
Once the Group BOM is created, these BOM must assign to a plant in IB17,IB07 or CS07. Then only these BOMs can be used in Mntc order to select the components for operations.
Correct me If I am wrong at any point.
For answer 3), When I tried to create 2nd BOM for the tech: Obj: in the same plant, system giving an error. Is there any configuration to be done to have alternative BOMs? Please help me with instructions.
Thank you
Hello Renjit,
In fact typo error in my reply to pont1. I meant 'Called Group BOM' but the 'Group' word omitted. So farI did not have the opportunity to take a dip into this area. However I'm giving the Configuration set-up in my client where there is no issues for creating alternative BOMs.
Good luck

Hi Renjit,
I followed your configuration for the creation of an alternative BOM for the same FL and Equipment in the same plant, but I received always the same error:
Message no. 29752
Please, could you help me?
If the creation of more BOM for the same FL is not possible, how can i manage the multilevel BOM for a FL?
Thanks a lot
Renjith N K,
Maybe it would be a good idea to give us the business requirements behind the questions above??
