Hi,
I am making my own demonstartion infocube which I am going to load with transaction data from csv file for the users to know how BW works. I created my Cube and infosource but when i right click on the infosource i dont see a option " Assign datasource" which was there previuosly.
Can someone tell me how can i do that.
Thanks

Or double-check with the online documentation delivered with the software.

HI:
If you are using the new dataflow architecture in the Data Warehosuing workbench, you must utilize the new "transformation" functionality - create transformation to map DataSource to InfoSource (which note is now completely optional), and also from InfoSource to Cube. You need to create Data Transfer processes to consigure the runtime of the dataflow.
Note you could connect the datasource directly to the cube using transformation / DTP. OR, alternatively - if the new architecture is "too much" right now, you can drop back to RSA1OLD to use the pure 3.5 functionality.

Hi Ronald,
Thanks for both the suggestions, I tried both the ways. One thing i want to ask is When u do by the transaformation method, what do we have to enter in the Datasource field. It asks you for object then datasource and source system. I had datasource and flat file i didnt get what do i fill in middle field.
can you suggest,
Thanks
Hi Mukund,
maybe I do not see your point, yet just some general remarks about transformations and InfoSources in SAP NetWeaver 2004s.
In general, transformations are used to connect data sources to InfoProviders. Data sources can be DataSources, but also InfoProvider like InfoCubes and DataStore Objects.
In the new paradigm, you do not need an InfoSource any more. You only need an InfoSource if you want to implement 2 transformations before posting the data to an InfoProvider.

PS: Have you checked whether your DataSource is not already assigned to an InfoSource, and hence not available in the list of DataSources available for your InfoSource.
Hi Andreas,
I did a little bit of reserach and played with the new way that you replied, as per you dont need to an infosource. And so i went and created (test/demo)transformation on the cube for datasource and infosource and even cube as the object source. Can you give me some more explantation as to when we can use this approcah and when we cannot use this approach..since we are yet to start trasnferring objects from Business conetent to developing we need to figure out a policy as to which way we are going to use. For instance we are talking about cubes 0FIAP_C02 and 0FIAP_C03 what would be your explanation. I want to go with new way so all your help will be appreciated.
Thanks again,
Hi Mukund,
the delivered Business Content is still based on 3.X. Business Content based on SAP NetWeaver 2004s objects (new DataSource, Transformations, Data Transfer Processes, etc.) will be built gradually and delivered with the respective BI Content Add-Ons.
Until then, you can use the 3.X DataSources in conjunction with the new objects. This process is called emulation (please see also the online documentation).
You can also migrate the 3.X DataSources to the new concept. You do so by selecting the menu option in context menu while positioning the cursor on a DataSource. In order to reverse (recover), you can create a backup (export) of the metadata of the releases prior to SAP NetWeaver 2004s.

Hi,
Thanks Andreas for the information. Where can i find more documentation regarding "emulation" you mentioned "(please see also the online documentation)". I am not sure where to look tho, did you mean help.sap.com or is there any other link.
Please pass on this information, it will be very helpful.
Thanks,
Mukund
Just refresh the screen and try some times it happens.
