Option for User to give range of date in compose tab other than what Preview provides

Hi ,

User wants to select a range for date in which the data should be displayed and he wants to do everything in the compose tab. Other than the preview mode option. I am looking forward to provide input control so that he can select range of values in which he can see the data, but I cannot find this kind of functionality in compose tab. Any options or suggestions by which i can ?

Compose tab is for building a story; not sure why the user wants to filter there?  What is the business reason behind that?

Hi Tammy,

The user wants to see the attached visualizations(2 charts and cross tab) to be specifically for the particular date range and change accordingly. He has seen the functionality of input controls and their effect on the visualizations and wants the same for a range of date he selects. We want to provide that functionality.

Also, your initial discussion said the user wanted to filter in compose versus preview, why the difference - what is the business reason behind that?

Hi,

The user will not have to go on the explore option for each visualization and then select the range for date, what we are trying is to provide an Option through which all the visualizations are changed for the range he selects. I just want to explore different options by which we can provide such kind of functionality. I am not able to provide any attachment,but would be happy to know the ways I can provide this kind of functionality.

If you mean a date range on an input control, Lumira does not have that today - please vote for this idea at Idea Place: Date Range option on Input Control : View Idea

A possible workaround you could create a date/time hierarchy based on your date dimension/field. You can then add input controls for Year, Quarter, Month, Day on your page in the compose tab.  Each input control will allow you to select multiple options.

As an example, if you want the charts on your page to show values for the date range 'Jan 1st 2009' to 'June 30th 2009', you can set Input Control Year=2009 and Input Control Quarter=Q1,Q2
