Migrate from BO 6.5 to BO 4.X

Hello Experts,

my client wants to migrate universes from BO 6.5 to new version BO 4.X. Currently they don't have any upgrade done. What's the strategy?

If they buy BO 4.2, you could migrate their universes directly or will have to create them again ?

First of all, please review this site :

Most of the question you could have are answered there.

In a nut shell , your customer has 2 choices :
1. Migrate universes to Xi3.1 first and then to BI4.1 or BI4.2 (no direct migration path from 6.5 to 4.x)
2. Manually migrate universes via Universe designer.
    In 6.5 use Designer to save universes for all users to local drive, then in BI4.x use Universe designer to import those universes from local drive into Enterprise.
you loose all report associations that way, but you'll move universes.

thank you very much for you answer. I am going to read that forum, but only a one question more. You say "Migrate universes to Xi3.1 first". I don't understand because my client probably will buy BI 4.2 so, Can they migrate to Xi 3.1 if they buy 4.2?

they need to discuss that with their SAP account representative, if they have valid maintenance agreement with SAP, they can get both versions.
I do not know the details on licensing/purchasing etc.

     You can NOT migrate directly from BOE 6.5, you will need to migrate to XIR2  or XI 3.1 first.

You cannot directly upgrade from 6.5 to 4.1. First you need to move to R2 or 3.1 and then upgrade to 4.1.
