Subcontracting - no requirements in ECC for APO planned component product.

Hi all

We have a scenario where we produce a product in house. This is then sent to a subcontractor (along with packing materials) to pack into a multipack format.

(that is, the factory produces tins of peas for example. The external subcontractor then packages these tins up as three-packs.)

The multipack product and the component product are both planned in APO. The packing materials are ECC planned.

We do however have stock reporting that we drive out of ECC.

This all plans correctly in APO and we see the subcontract orders and their relevant demand on the component product and the resulting SNP planned orders to produce the component. All looks correct in APO.

In ECC we see the purchase requisition to procure the multipack product from the subcontractor, and the dependant requirements on the non-APO planned components. We also see the production of the component products. What we are missing from ECC is the dependant demand on the APO planned component product.

The purchase requisitions to procure the multipack produt show a bill of materials that doesn't include the component (although the BOM in ECC for the multipack product DOES include the APO planned component product).

Does anyone have any idea what we are missing here?

Thanks,

-Andy

Hi Andy,

Did you ever solve this issue.  I think I have exactly the same problem.

Subcontracted item planned in APO SNP.  BOM Contains a mixture of Products planned in APO and Packaging materials planned in ECC.  The Purchase Req for the final product generated in APO is passed to ECC.  But when we look at the components only the non APO Planned Components are displayed.  If we force a BOM Explosion in the req or when converting to Purchase order the APO components get added but why do they not appear already?

Would be very interested to find out if you were able to solve this issue.

Thanks

Not exactly. I went back in for another look recently and it was working, although I don't believe we changed anything. I'll update if I find out anything concrete (or even remotely useful!)f

Hi Adam,

As mentioned. But when we look at the components only the non APO Planned Components are displayed.

Please elaborate.

Hi Adam - My mistake - it's not working! We still see the same issue, The reason for the confusion was that when I checked the purchase reqs had been converted to purchase orders and therefore had re-exploded the BOM and raised the relevant requirements.

We are on ECC6 EHP7 SPS2. Our APO consultant has spoken to one of his other clients on a higher SPS release and they do not see this issue. He has identified a couple of SAP notes that may correct this so we're giving that a go in our dev system. I'll let you know if we get any success.

Hi Arvind, In our scenario we send a combination of VERP (Packaging Material) and FERT (Finished Products) to the subcontractor.  They basically Pack the FERTS into the Packaging material and send us the packed product.  We use SNP to plan the production of FERTS.  So when we run Heuristics in our Subcon scenario the planning of the FERTS occurs in SNP.  The Purchase Req is geerated but when we look at the BOM components of the Purchase Req in ECC, only the FERTS appear.  Only way we can get the entire list of BOM components into the req is to force a BOM explosion of the req either by going into change mode and clicking explosion on the req, or converting to Purchase Order which again forces a re-read of the BOM.

Thanks for the feedback Andy.  Yes I am very interested to hear if you have any success.  This has been frustrating me for a couple of months now.

We are on ECC6 EHP7 SPS5.  APO Side SCM7 EHP3 SPS2

Another couple of observations.

1. If we manually create a Req direct in the APO Planning Book and save, we can then go into ECC and this Req references the Production Version and will pull all the components in.  I guess it is because it was manually created (even in SNP) it sets the Firmed/fixed indicator and perhaps when it gets created in ECC it forces a BOM explosion.

2. On the manually generated Req above if I look at the Material in the Subcon Location in the Planning book I see the Planned Order is placed in the Production (Subcontracting Planned) Key Figure.  However my problem reqs that gat generated by Heuristics get placed in the Production )Planned) Key Figure.  Which suggests that the issue must be Heuristics related.

Incidentally we have opened a ticket with SAP as well so I will share anything I learn.

Anyway, good luck and please let me know if you have any luck.

We are on the same APO version and SPS as you. Our ECC notes didn't help.

We are also in the midst of an APO SPS upgrade (to SPS11).

Our upgrade finished on the development APO system yesterday and we noted that this now works correctly in our development environment (even before the application of the ECC notes), which does confirm your suspicion that the issue is somewhere on the APO side.

That's good to hear. We are actually in the process of applying SPS11 as well so I am hoping I see the same results as you.

Hi Adam

Our QA system upgrade completed this weekend. We had an example that failed in that system pre-upgrade and works fine post-upgrade, so that's pretty much confirmation that the fix for this is somewhere in the Support Pack.

(We didn't have a failing example pre-upgrade in the dev system to compare so we were just assuming it had fixed it up to this point)
