ORA-00201: controlfile version 8.0.0.0.0 incompatible with ORACLE version 9.2.0.0.0

Hi All

We are facing a weird situation. We took a full offline backup of one of our staging servers with Oracle 9.2.0.8 running on it. After performing an upgrade, we cleaned up system and re-created an old staging environment again with the restore.

But after re-store we are not able to start or mount our DB because it throws below error:

"ORA-00201: controlfile version 8.0.0.0.0 incompatible with ORACLE version 9.2.0.0.0"

Now I know that if controlfile version is higher than Oracle version the I must change the compatibility parameter in spfile. But in our case the controlfile version shown is lower than our Oracle version.

Now we are stuck here. Running backup controlfile to trace is not working even, as database cannot be mounted.

Please help. We are stuck.

Regards

Rahul

    Hi Rahul,

"ORA-00201: controlfile version 8.0.0.0.0 incompatible with ORACLE version 9.2.0.0.0"

Have you tried / checked to mount the database by adding compatibility parameter under pfile to regenerate the spfile ?

    Regards,
