Hi Sisila:

SAP Content Server is a standalone Application that can be connected to ECC. Please go through below documentation to get more information around this.

https://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp1/helpdata/en/36/311482502958439aa8621255cbcd0c/frameset.htm

Also for using SAP Content Server you need to decide how you want to store your documents -  either on File System Level or in DB.

If you go with DB, SAP Content Server comes with SAP MaxDB Database.

SAP Content Server Installation documentation can be found here.

Hope this helps.

Thanks.

Hello Mandeep,

Provided links are very useful. Thank you very much for that.

I have still doubt on DMS server and content server. Are these two same? Or two different solutions (product) for document management in SAP.

I am planning to go with the file system installation (Not for a DB). Any disadvantage on this?

We are using oracle DB for ECC. (SAP ECC server and content server will be the data center in LAN network).

Appreciate your comment on this

Hi Sisila:

DMS is Document management System that facilitates storing the document on Content Server. Many times DMS and Content Server are used synonymously. For implementing DMS using SAP Content Server you don't need to install anything on SAP ECC side. You just need to install a SAP Content Server.

Please read through this SCN dicussion on comparing File System and DB based Content Server Installation:

Hope this helps.

Thanks.
