Update Dialog Instance option in High Availability system Upgrade

Dear Experts,

I have completed my sap upgrade from EHP4 to EHP7 in Dev and QAS system.

Now i want to perform upgrade in my production system.

Here my doubt is production system is HA system i.e. i have one central instance, one database instance and 5 application servers.

So in SUM tool while doing high availability system upgrade we have one option Update Dialog Instance in configuration phase.

So if i select that option, My downtime will increase or it will be same as in Qas and Dev.

If i wont select that option what will happen.

Expecting helpful reply.

Please suggest.

    Hi karthik,

SAP upgrade is upgrade the component which will not affect the dia.. during upgrade sap will stop the application and create the shadow instance and upgrade the latest compent which means not the data and kernal . SAP have giving the option to upgrade it for dia. if your dia in same host or mounted then it will take a hour . if you not select the option it then you can do it later.

First read the upgrade guide. If you have additional application servers they can stay up until you reach the downtime phase. Before you start the downtime phase you need to isolate the central instance, means you need to stop all the application servers. There is an option in the SUM tool called "Update Dialog Instances", you should check this option in the configuration phase to make sure that the SUM updates the dialog instances and adapt its profiles as part of the upgrade. There is also a section in the SUM guide for actions to be taken if the system is set up with High Availability.
