Why for Bulk putaway strategy does mixed storage not need to be set

Hi.

I have setup a storage type to use bulk storage for putaway. I only have addition to stock flagged and not mixed storage. This actually allows me to move different SU's into the block storage until the full capacity is met which each time creates a new quant for each new SU. Now this is what confuses me....because a new SU is a new quant.

Per the SAP definitions you need to flag the Mixed Storage if you wish to add additional quants to a bin so why does SAP allow this if I have not flagged mixed storage?

I would expect that as I only have addition to stock flag the system would actually only allow 1 SU in that bin and never accumulate as another SU is considered as a new quant so the system would propose another bin.

To confirm this I created another storage type which is SU managed and set it up as manual placement flagging only 'addition to stock' and not 'mixed storage'. I then tried to move a SU into existing bin with the exact same material and attributes packed in a SU and the systen gives the error 'Mixed Storage not allowed'. Now this makes sense as it wanted to create a new quant and its not flagged to allow it.

So why is it ok that for bulk it adds new quants if mixed storge is not set?

Thanks for any feedback

It is the right system behavior and described in OSS note    88450 - WM: Bulk storage processing as of Release 4.0

here it is said:

    1. "   "  Mixed storage not permitted

The same material and batch must be on all storage units of a storage bin.

the SU number is a quant splitting criteria but does not violate the mixed storage rule.

Thanks - I took a look at the note and was just struggling to find the 2nd point you made:

'The SU number is a quant splitting criteria but does not violate the mixed storage rule'

Where did you see this as that it what I would expect and am I correct then thats its only in the case of Bulk Storage this applies as my other tests using SU management seems to violate the mixed storage rule if not flagged?

the last sentence is my own experience and interpretation.
