Hi Colleagues,

I have to prepare Oracle 11.20.0.3 online backup + restore via brtools and I’m just wondering how to do this as fast as possible due to limited time. For example I thought that I will do it this way:

  1. BRTOOLS

Online database backup on the old server

  1. Preparation new environment ( I need some time for new environment preparation and system work 24h by day)

Restore online database backup on the new server

  1. BRTOOLS

Archive log backup on the old server

  1. BRTOOLS

Restore archive log on the new server

Question is, how to prepare restore procedure ? Between restore full online backup and restore archive logs will take several days. Can I use for restore brtools options:

At first – Complete database recovery (restore online backup)

Next pint – Restore and application of archivelog files (restore archive logs)

What do you thinking about it, this is correct way it I want to at first restore online backup and after few days restore archive log ? How shall I do this ?

Regards,

T.

HI Tomasz,

SAP note 1003028 should help for your case.

I had a similar situation when I helped move SAP servers from the west coast to the east coast. We used Oracle (11.2.0.3) Data Guard and configured the "new" system as a standby database and replicated the logs across the WAN until we were ready for the switch. Of course we had a very high speed WAN and were able to use that solution. Either way, you have to move archive logs to synchronize data. And the longer you want to be ready in advance the more logs you'll need to apply. Especially, if the project has delays.

The backup should be restored first. After the backup has been restored successfully you need to restore the offline redologs and start applying that.
