How to get entries in M_JOB_PROGRESS

Hello ,

I have a requirement to check status of job progress in HANA. I am checking system table M_JOB_PROGRESS to get the status values. Currently this system table is empty. What do I need to do to get entries in this table? I do not want to use XS jobs, but am looking for a scenario which will help populate data in this system table. I have tried enabling performance trace and writing the o/p of trace to another file , but this did not create a job.

Please suggest any scenarios that can get me entries in M_JOB_PROGRESS.

Thanks,

Suma.

    Hi Suma,

Which jobs are you looking to monitor using this view? Are you looking for any Application jobs or HANA Database jobs?

The Monitoring View M_JOB_PROGRESS provides a view for any long running system operations on HANA, here is a link for the description of this view

This view is not for custom XS jobs at all.

Instead it provides the status of SAP HANA internal jobs.

So for larger operations, e.g. merging a table SAP HANA can internally put the different steps of that operation into a "job" API, which will then take over the control over the execution of this job.

Having said that, the view you refer to is to provide the admin some insight into the current status of these jobs.

Thanks for your response Lars . Can backup of tables be considered as an internal job? If I schedule a backup of a custom table , will that create an entry in M_JOB_PROGRESS table?

Is there any other activity that will result in creating an internal job?

    Thanks,

    Suma.
