Hi All,
I am trying upload mass characteristic values for some materials using Transaction CLMM.
Set and Change values has been completed and when I try to use - Assign Values in Matrix, Target Objects have been given as the material for which the values need to be assigned, system shows the error message: The Target Class is not assigned to Initial Class.
Can anyone explain the reason behind this error. We are getting the issue only for two materials. For other materials we are able to upload data
Also is there any requirement that CLMM will only work when you already have another class attached to a material.
Please revert on the above.
Thanks in advance.

R Vijayakumar
My understanding is you need to select material based on classes assigned, if the material you selected do not have class you input in initial screen and that's one of the reason to get below error.
Message no. CLMM208
Try to follow below steps it may help you.
First assigned the correct class to material ,
then in CLMM input class type and class name ,
select object material and then select characteristic and values you want to assign then select target material it will work.
you can check initial selection in this document.
Please check and reply.
Thanks
Ritesh

I seen this error only in case when we input wrong class , please check your classes in MM03 classification view and input same in CLMM, it will work. As its not working for 2 specific materials it tell sthat there is some master data setup error. Share screens of the classification and CLMM input screen.
You can also check with technical team if implementing below note can fix your issue.
Please check and reply
Thanks
Ritesh
Hi Ritesh,
I have cross checked this with the user and found that the issue is not pertaining to only 2 materials but for all the materials for which Characteristic Values are being assigned in the Material Master using Transaction CLMM.
If you enter those Material Nos with preceding ZEROs then we are able to assign the characteristic values.
This is due to the fact that system recognizes the Material Master with ZEROs only and this is a bug.
SAP has suggested a note to be implemented.
SAP Note No: 2184395
We have taken it up with our Technical Team.
Thanks for the support.
