Sorting months in Design Studio

Dear all,

Sorting period names on basis of month date is a very critical and normal requirement.

I have to get month names sorted as(Jan,Feb,...).But the tool takes it alphabetically only.

Do the next version resolve this big? When will be the next version released? Is there any alternative that I can do at my backend HANA view?

Regards

Archana

Hi Archana,

This is possible with a minor modification in your HANA view, Add an extra display attribute to the dimension , this should contain the KEY for the months , this can be either be (1 to 12) or in the format (yyyymm).

In the initial view of the data source in DS, Set display attribute as KEY for the dimension and sort the members in ascending order. Now change the display attribute as Text. The sorting order remains the same and the Text is displayed as JAN FEB MAR etc..

Design Studio view you can sort by key and set display as text, this is working for us.

Hi Archana,

I think it depends on what you require exactly for different solutions.

For example, if you want month to sort in a crosstab, you can put a number-based month dimension before alphabet-based month dimension and then set number-based month dimension's "Members Display" to "No Display".

Dear Alfred,

Thanks for the reply .I have seen this solution ,but  if I have to display this column in my x axis in the chart, I should be able to hide that number and only show the month names. Is this possible in charts?

Hi Archana,

First of all, not all the chart types can accept 2 dimensions while column chart can.

In additional property, we can only hide either all label or sub label, but not hide only main label.

I didn't manage to find out css to do so either.

I only came up with a stupid way, which is to overlap the label we don't want with a panel having the same color as background. Maybe other fellows have better solution.

Best regards,

Alfred
