Trying to find best practices for ESS modification.

A collegue recommended checking out the following documents

"Floorplan Manager (FPM) Technical Details Presentation"

and

"Web Dynpro Development Exercises for Common ESS Service Modifications Document"

I wasnt able to find these documents, does anyone know where i can locate them, apparently they used to be on RKT.

Or does anybody have any experience / advice

Hi,

You should create a backup of the initial track and do your modifications on a copied track.

The real issue comes in upgrade and this issue is addressed in "JDI CookBook for ESS" mentioned in the SAP Note in that forum post link i have provided.

Have you gone through that.

Setting up the jdi is the first step, yes it has been done, the code i want to change is in my developer studio.

After looking at the code, modifying the code does not look simple, i am apprehensive to rush in.

What i am after is knowledge transfer, first hand from someone who has successfully made modifications or who has the documentation i am after, as i stated i have found out that there is a Ramp-up Knowledge Transfer (RKT) learning map associated with ESS for Webdynpro, which goes into the finer technical details, including setting up the DTR, understanding the Software Components and frameworks that were used in the development (eg PCUI and FPM) and has guided examples on how to change the code within the SAP suggested guidelines.

The extent to which you want to do modifications determines if it's tough or easy. The framework has been designed in a way that quite a lot of tweaking can be done with the help of ECC IMG itself..

Generalizing the whole code modification as simple was my mistake.

Being an experienced developer has taught you not to rush in.. but seems like it has not taught you how to be diplomatic and polite towards ppl who are ready to spend their time for other people's issues for NOTHING.

Anywys. Good luck with ur RKTs.
